synopsis
This is the third book in the trilogy about Custer’s missing Junior Officers. This too is based on historical fact and the personalities of those involved.
It is a character study of two men of very different backgrounds — General George Armstrong Custer and 2nd Lieutenant Henry A. Harrington — and how this leads to the death of one and the survival, against all odds, of the other.
excerpt
The officers were called forward to another meeting with the General.
“What has that unstable bastard got in mind now?” thought Henry. “I can’t believe how much I once admired that self-centered bastard! No longer George, no longer!”
The officers moved forward to the head of the column, where the General waited.
The General had suddenly changed his initial plan: now he was going to divide his Command into what he was now calling ‘Brigades’ — “He’s living back in the Civil War when he commanded actual Brigades,” thought Henry. “We’re being led by Alice in Wonderland!”
