Things that some credit to God and others to ‘chance’.

It will be difficult for any reader not to be reminded of events in his own past.

“Charlie my lad — you are one lucky son-of-a-bitch! That’s the simple fact of it. Didn’t you see me on the beach shaking my head, trying to tell you what a foolish thing you were about to do?
“Don’t let it become a habit, Boy! You’re starting to rely on it! These things don’t for one minute say you have angels on your shoulder — and it sure as Hell doesn’t suggest you can pass any good luck on to your men.”
